Questions & Answers

Domestic Violence:  How can I help?

Faith Initiatives of Wyoming and Wyoming Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault have partnered together to provide faith-based and community based programs with financial and technical assistance to support rural victims of domestic violence.

Through a grant with the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Violence Against Women, a Faith-based and community based pilot program has been established to help in priority areas that include:

  • advocacy
  • counseling and treatment;
  • emergency fiscal assistance for victims of domestic violence
  • Development of domestic violence education and prevention strategies.

James 1:27 says: “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress…”  God calls the church to defend those less fortunate.  The community faces domestic violence in one form or another every day.

It’s time to open the door to those in need of assistance and protection.

Why would my church or organization be interested?

Faith-based and community organizations have a history of bringing aid to victims of Domestic Violence and their families.  Most victims usually seek guidance, assistance and comfort because they believe these organizations are stable, caring resources in the community.  Because these organizations are trusted members of the community, they have the ability to provide social services on a level that is not traditionally supported by the Federal Government.
